Comfort Management
There have been many advances made in the area of comfort management. Topical anesthetics help us to administer anesthetic with little or no discomfort. Nitrous Oxide and head phones are other alternatives to help reduce anxiety during your dental procedures.
Cleaning/Prevention
A preventive - proactive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures of your teeth. By preventing the onset, progression, and recurrence of dental disease, we, as a team, can keep your smile healthy. To help prevent decay, we use fluoride treatments and sealants. We can also catch decay early with the use of digital x-rays and the Diagnodent.
Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is an inflammatory disease that affects the gum tissue as well as the surrounding bone. As it progresses, there is an increased risk of bone loss as well as tooth loss.
Diagnosis: Periodontal disease is usually diagnosed during the soft tissue exam and radiographic exam. The soft tissue exam looks at the health of the gums: redness, inflammation or if bleeding is present.
Treatment: Treatment involves removing the bacterial plaque and tartar from the teeth above and below the gumline. A 4 - 6 week follow-up appointment is needed after this deep cleaning to reassess the tissue health and prescribe maintenance.
Maintenance: Usually we need to see the patient for regular cleaning appointments at a 3-4 month interval. The gum tissue is reassessed and home care instructions are given to help maintain your progress.
